Dell Diagnostic Lights

by Dave on April 9, 2009

If you have a Dell computer, there is a chance it has some type of external diagnostic light to help you or the technician servicing your computer determin the problem with your PC. Sometimes the diagnostic light on your Dell will be the power button itself, or it might be a series of lights on the back of the PC that have various numbers and colors. It is the pattern of these numbers and colors that can quickly help techs find the source of the issue and replace whatever part might have failed in the computer.

Again, some Dell computer will have the diagnostic lights built into the power button. So if you turn on your PC and nothing happens, look at the power button and take note of its state. For example, a blinking yellow light indicates either a power supply or motherboard failure. A solid green light means everything is operating normally. If you have different diagnostic lights, be sure to lookup your model on the Dell website for more instructions.
