Microsoft’s SteadyState is the Ultimate Defense against Five Year Olds

by Dave on March 31, 2009

It’s been a while since we’ve done a Daily Download, but I felt compelled to let everyone know about Microsoft’s free program called SteadyState . No longer can children log into your home computer and push that magic button (invisible to adults) that often changes the screen resolution to 640×480 with 16 colors. Or that magic button that uninstalls your sound card drivers. SteadyState works by returning your computer to the condition it was when Steady State was applied when it is rebooted. This is typically applied in librarys, Internet cafes, etc, where public computers need to be returned to a working state quickly.

While this program might not be the best thing to run on your main home computer, you can put it on a child’s PC and let them go crazy. SteadyState is free and simple to install.
