Top Things I learned in 2008

by Dave on December 23, 2008

My friends, with 2008 coming to a screaching, grinding, twisting, fiery end, I just wanted to take a minute to recap some of the valuable things I learned in 2008. While some of you may already know these things, I suspect there are a few on our computer message boards that do not.

1. Antivirus2009 is not really an antivirus, so when you get the popups, do not click them. Instead run, do not walk, to your favorite download site or visit Malwarebytes.orgfor MalwareBytes.

2. Vista is a good Operating System, but do not buy it. Those goofy Mac vs PC tv commercials did their job and killed Vista. But I personally know hundreds of people who love Vista and are having no problems. But at this point in the game, we need to be gearing toward Windows 7 and just let Vista die a shameful death.

3. Laser printers are better than ink jet printers. If someone sees me in a store buying an ink jet printer I hereby give you permission to smack me in the head. Laser printers are cheaper in the long run and are actually pretty affordable right out of the box.

4. P2P downloading sites are bad. If you get the urge to download music or programs from the Internet, don’t.  If this is not the number 1 source of virus and malware procreation it surely must be second. Stealing is bad–especially at this time of year with Santa watching.

5. The PCTechBytes Community is the best. While I always knew this, I am constantly amazed at the quality of free support they give on our boards. Happy Holiday’s to everyone and have a good new year. I hope Santa brings you a new, shiny PC running Windows Vista Premium because Enterprise just isn’t worth the extra money, but I digress.
