Change the Location of the My Documents Folder in Windows

With the incorporation of servers in homes and small offices becoming more common, it becomes more practical to keep folders in one location for all users. For instance, users can share a single My Documents folder on their Windows server (or a different hard drive) that has greater capacity than the C: drive in their PC. Other users will then be able to share and access this folder, as well, by clicking the My Documents folder on their desktop.

To change the location of your My Documents folder, create the My Documents folder in the new location, then go back to the original location and right-click the folder, then select Properties. You can then type in the new location in the target dialog box and click apply. Now, when you open My Documents, the folder will be pointing to a different location.
