How to Make Invisible Desktop Shortcuts

We’re not suggesting you have anything to hide, or that you’re trying to be sneaky. But we have a quick way for you to make specific desktop shortcuts invisible. You can then put the invisible shortcut in a certain area of the desktop and be able to access the files within by clicking what appears to be nothingness.

First, put the shortcut or folder wherever you want it to be invisible on the desktop. Next, right-click it and select Properties. Then under the Customize tab you will see a button that says Change Icon. If you scroll through these you will find one that is transparent. Select that and return to the desktop. You will notice the icon is gone, but the name and shortcut arrow are still there.

To remove the name, hold the ALT button on the keyboard and type 0160 on the keypad (make sure the Num Lock is enabled. The text should have disappeared.

To make the arrow go bye-bye, you will need to edit the registry. Go to START>Run and type regedit.exe. Expand HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT>Scroll down to folder called LNKFILE>single click on the folder>In the right pane right click on IsShortcut and rename it (recommended) or click delete. Once you reboot, the shortcut arrows should be gone.

That should do it. Now you can hide folders and shortcuts all over your desktop. Just don’t forget where you put them.
