Fast Shutdown Desktop Shortcut
What is Microsoft trying to do, permanently disable us? This whole navigating to the shutdown button thing is inhumane and might even be considered torture. It takes how many clicks–two, three to shutdown a PC? Well, we’re going to help with that. Our next tip in our ongoing guide to laziness is creating a desktop icon that allows you to quickly shutdown your computer. And if that isn’t enough, we’re also going to show you how to create a fast restart icon, as well. So grab your soda and potato chips and get ready.
How to Create a Fast Shutdown Shortcut on Your Desktop
Right-click a bare spot on your desktop and select New, then Shortcut.
In the dialog box, type shutdown.exe -s -t 0 (the last didget is a zero).
Click Next.
Type a name for the shortcut, such as “Fast Shutdown” and hit Finish.

You will have a generic icon, which you can change by right-clicking it and selecting Properties, then Change Icon. You will get an error that pops up right away, just close it and select your new icon for the shutdown button.
You can do the exact steps above to create a fast restart shortcut button on your desktop. Just replace the target to shutdown.exe -r -t 0.
