How to Organize Your Internet Favorites

organize internet favoritesDon’t be an Internet slob.

You may not be the type of person who leaves your socks on the floor or drinks directly out of the milk carton, but I bet if I were to open your Favorites menu in your web browser, I’d be horrified to find it littered with miscellaneous links to websites. The bad thing is, you probably don’t even know what half of these links go to. That’s okay. I’m was the same way until recently when I decided enough was enough. I sat down at my PC and did a little Favorites Spring Cleaning. I can now quickly navigate to whatever site I need to in a matter of seconds.

Make Favorite Folders
To make folders in IE, go to Favorites in your menu bar and select Organize Favorites. You will see a button that says Create Folder. You will need to make folders if you have any chance of staying organized. You can categorize these generally, like Shopping, Restaurants, Travel, etc. Once you have created folders, you can create folders inside of those folders. For instance, if you had a folder for Restaurants, you can have a folder inside of that called Chinese, where you would put the links to all of your favorite Chinese restaurants websites.

Backup Your Favorites
Now that you’ve gone through all of that trouble, take a moment to backup your Favorites folder. This located in your Documents and Settings folder. To get there, just right-click the Start menu and click Explore. Under your username, look for the favorites folder (It will likely have a star next to it). Then just copy that to a floppy or a thumb drive. If your hard drive ever fails, you can copy your Favorites over to the new installation.
