Don’t Look at Me I’m Hideous | The Life of a Vista User

Windows Vista users“Sanctuary!”

Isn’t that what the Hunchback of Notre Dame exclaimed as he ran into the cathedral, climbing up the towers and ringing those bells, his face a contorted mound of flesh, his back twisted and bulging? That Quasimodo had a great life. Unlike us Vista users, he had a church he could run into for protection. Although our attackers aren’t (yet) wielding pitchforks and torches, we catch the same disgusted leers and surprising gasps when we encounter Mac and Windows XP users on the streets. I am not a animal, people…I am a human being!

Okay, maybe it’s not that bad. I tend to exagerrate, sometimes. But I must have been asked three times this week why I am running Windows Vista when there are so many problems with it. Then people corner me with a desperate look in their eyes because they want a new PC but do not want the dreaded Vista–saying ”Vista” as if it  were a contagious disease.

Folks, there is nothing wrong with Vista. It’s fine. Put down your pitchforks and go home. With the recent release of Service Pack 1, and with regular updates from Microsoft and third-party vendors, Vista is running a lot better than it did at launch. But those problems were not all Microsoft’s fault. Sure, it requires a bit more RAM than XP did. No big deal, just buy a PC with at lease 2 Gigs of memory and you’ll be fine.

So if you see me lingering in the shadows, don’t be afraid. I am a computer user just like you, made of flesh and blood. I just so happen to be a Vista user.
