The Phoenix Lander Finds Ice–maybe

by Dave on May 31, 2008

It’s quite likely a rock in the sea of millions of rocks, but the Mars Phoenix lander has spotted something that very much resembles a small cropping of ice. It will begin digging soon to make that determination. While NASA reports some problem’s with the lander’s gas analyzers–a device that melts and vaporizes particles for testing, they claim to have found some workarounds to the problem.

So we now have three active crafts on Mars: The new Phoenix lander, the Spirit and Opportunity rovers. The rovers have been chugging along since 2004.
